If a week ago you told me I’d be walking around with my phone on silent, I would have laughed in your face; but that’s in fact what I’ve been doing. At work last week my phone was going crazy; tweets, group chats, tinder matches (ha, yeah right) - my desk was vibrating so much that I thought it would trigger an earthquake. So out of pure desperation, I turned my phone on silent.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the
lack of unread messages or emails :)

Unbeknown to me, when your phone doesn’t ring for your attention you can actually focus on another tasks. Don’t get me wrong, I was delaying the inevitable by letting the notifications pile up however in the moment, I could get what needed to be done, done.
I enjoyed it so much that now I just walk around with my phone on silent.
I know what you’re thinking
‘But Mario, what if there’s an emergency and someone’s trying to contact you?’.
Don’t be confused, I still compulsively check my phone. The difference is that I check it when I want too rather than letting it interrupt what I’m doing.
It sounds like the most illogical thing to do but in all honestly, what’s the worst that can happen? You could always ring someone back or reply to a message a later. I know it sounds cliche but it helps me stay in the moment which is something I’ve been struggling with for a while.
Stay focused,

Mario El :p
